Hydrodynamic processes in self-pumping sliding bearing

In the paper the results of the tests of self-pumping stern tube sliding bearing have been considered. It has been established that the pressure in the diametrical plane of the bearing top part remains practically constant though the frequency of rotation is increasing. In each lateral pocket the cavities of pumping and sucking are formed. When the direction of rotation is changed, these cavities interchange the position.

On experience of stern tube arrangements' exploitation and tendencies of their development

The paper contains the analyses of domestic and foreign experience of stern tube arrangements' exploitation at different ships. The functional performance of antifriction materials for stern-shaft bearings has been evaluated. The perspectives of stern tube arrangements' development owing both to the improvement of traditional construction and using the alternative movers instead of propeller shafts have been considered.
